The Division operates The Laboratory of Design and also CAD Laboratory where strength analyses of any load carrying structures of machines, equipment and vehicles within the domain of linear and nonlinear mechanics for static and dynamic loads are carried out. Studies aimed at verifying strength criteria for both new designs and machines operating for many years (e.g. degraded surface mining machines and equipment, cranes and overhead cranes), by means of which the durability of these structures could be evaluated, are conducted.
The Division is engaged in research and educational activities relating to problems of computer-aided design (CAD) and concurrent engineering (CE). The research covers geometric and strength modelling in integrated CAD systems and the development of numerical methods, including the Finite Element Method (FEM), in deformable body mechanics.
